GLORIOUS GLORY

Heartiest congratulations are in order for shuttlers Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong for bringing back the All England men's doubles title to Malaysia over the weekend. A few months ago, they won gold medals at the Doha Asian Games.
The duo (and their coach Rexy Mainaky), which ended the country's quarter of a century wait for the title, deserves more than just our pat on the back. They deserve our respect and admiration for not just doing the country proud, but by doing it consistently and without much fuss.
Not a hardcore badminton fan, I wonder where they train. My instinct says it's just at some local badminton training centre, perhaps somewhere in Cheras. And not at some fancy-smancy training cum conditioning facility in a foreign land.
Syabas, Kien Keat and Boon Heong for your glorious glory. Keep doing your thing and continue to make us proud.
Talk about glorious, the Chinese Government has just started a campaign to teach its citizen basic manners and etiquette ahead of the Beijing Olympics next year. It seems that spitting, picking one's nose and ears and jumping queues are common among the Chinese, and the Government is intent of ridding these social faux pas of its populace.
Part of its nationwide campaign includes appointing public "monitors" to encourage, remind and persuade their countrymen and countrywomen to be polite and observe manners when boarding up buses and trains, for example. The tagline for the campaign is: "It's glorious to be polite."
I hope this campaign will continue well until after the Olympics. I've been to Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen (and to a couple of other smaller Chinese cities) and yes, the Chinese do need these campaign.
May be our Govenment should emulate its Chinese counterpart. God knows Malaysians could use a lesson or two on etiquette and manners.

paying 100 rexys to train our athletes over the next 50nyears will still be cheaper than "renovating" an old building for a training centre and building running tracksin its rose garden..

As raised by many.. Olympics are held in the summer.. then again, maybe we're eyeing the winter Olympics..

just like you.. I am happy to know that those duo finally managed to win the cup.. But i hope we dont have to wait another quarter of a century for the next title. As for those Chinese people in China, I also heard from many of my friends who went there before that those chinese like to jump queue.. and a little ill-manner..

Lis,
A bad idea getting worse, don't you think? Yet, I don't understand why they are pushing for the project to go ahead.

Xis,
Sometimes people behave in a certain way because they don't know better, because it has been that way for generations.

5:28 PM

Che Man, that project has to go ahead.. coz it's been planned.. budgetted for .. they even announced "works in progress" without the local council even having approved anything...

but the London council does not matter.. what is important is that as the project has been identified and approved, funds can then be spent ... they didn't promise trophies.. they just promised a center...

6:08 PM

and don't forget.. if things "don't work out".. just announce the same as "failed projects..". (antara projek yang kurang berjaya....) tak pa. tak pa..

6:09 PM

Yeahhh....totally agreed with Lis. Come what may, the project must go on as certain parties are alredy harvesting the fruits of not their labour....who cares about the trophies or even training to begin with....we were just promised "money, money, money...must be funny..it's the rich's man world.." gitu....

And if people want to learn manners and good behaviour conduct, please come to Christchurch for free training/exposure/lesson...no need to Kempen Budi Bahasa yang buang duit and masa...here, nobody will even think of taking off from the bus without saying Thank You or Cheers to the drivers...and greet them or being greeted by them as u aboard...this is what civilization is all about...u understand and u translate it into action - willingly....habiskan duit berjuta ribu berkempen pung orang masih tak bertamaddun....AND IT'S OUR HARD EARNED MONEY!!!! Urrggghhh...

The Mainland Chinese is another story la..ha ha ha...their kelakarseram public toilet...:)
